The PNW is in the midst of a record breaking heat wave. Normally during the summer we will get a day or two of triple digit weather. Well, mother nature (or is it global warming) decided one or two days just wasn’t enough for us. I believe with this heat wave we’ve had an accumulated full week of triple digits. Don’t quote me on that.
This week I have been fortunate enough to be a part of my church’s VBS program. Let me tell you right now, it ain’t easy. This heat wave brought in some kind of smoky fog like air. Maybe Mr. Sun was trying to emulate how I felt with VBS? I have felt dazed and in a fog since VBS started on Monday. And I’m ONLY A CREW LEADER!!! I can only imagine the teachers who have to prepare weeks before hand to get ready.
I shared how I wasn’t ready for my first day. Well, three days in and one more to go had me realize something. I don’t think you’re ever completely ready for VBS. I’ve had so much things I’ve had to think quickly on. I’ve had to stop arguments. Comfort upset children. Learn new songs I’ve never heard in my life. Find a way to connect with each child in my group. Stay in prayer throughout the day so I can be a light for each child. And remember to keep my attitude right. Wowzer has it been an adventure!
After tomorrow I’ll probably still not know what I did or how I did it. But, after tomorrow I know I was able to help a new boy to the church have fun and break out of his shell. I was able to meet new kids and learn more about them. I got to connect with kids I already know and learn more about them too. I got to learn just as much about God as the kiddos did. And, though I felt roughened up at the end of each day I felt like there was a win somewhere. Ready or not.
And see, that’s the thing. One of my favorite quotes is this:
You’re never going to be 100% ready and it’s never going to be just the right time, but that’s the point. It means that every moment is also the right moment. If you want it, you just have to do it.
Love rewards the brave, my friends. Taking that first baby step. Taking a leap of faith. Climbing the highest tower. Jumping into a zip line. Walking around your house in the dark. Whatever you want to face, conquer, accomplish all you have to do is do it. There isn’t an excuse. The cliché of if there’s a will there’s a way is a cliché for a reason.
It wasn’t the right time for me to be at VBS because I wasn’t prepared. But, I did it anyway.
It wasn’t the right time to start a family because we didn’t have the finances. But, we did it anyway.
It wasn’t the right time for me to begin a new class because of money and time. But, I did it anyway.
It wasn’t the right time for me to take a trip that would change things for me because of prior obligations and work. But, I did it anyway.
Do you see the theme here?
Shia LaBeauf I think can sometimes be a weirdo but I loved this video. Take a peek and enjoy. Remember, everything you want is on the other side of fear. So, what are you waiting for? Just do it! xoxo
